Letter to the Community from Superintendent Gardner – June 23, 2020

June 24, 2020

Central Linn Families:

I would like to thank all of the parents who took the time to promptly answer our survey concerning what you would like to see us do in the 20/21 school year. The community has overwhelmingly spoken that they would like to see our kids back at school full time or at a minimum some sort of hybrid instruction that includes both in person and remote components.

We have received the first version of guidance from the Oregon Department of Education (ODE) and are working through how to provide what the community wants within ODE guidance; this is no small task. I can say that we are committed to provide in person instruction; however it will look different. We are dedicated to keeping kids, staff and families safe without overly institutionalizing the experience for kids. There may be some element of remote learning and developing a good model for that is critical; if we need to close a classroom or building due to infection temporarily the transition back and forth needs to be seamless.

There are still a number of things that we don’t yet know that will have an impact: 1. We are waiting on a new executive order from the Governor which could impact staffing and liability issues. 2. We need to do a deep dive on how we are going to deal with transportation. Social distancing requirements on busses are extremely burdensome. Thankfully, many of you answered on the survey that you could help by getting your kids to and from school. We may be contacted you individually over the summer to firm up transportation plans.  Thank you for your help! 3. We do not know and probably will not know until September what our state and federal funding is going to be for the 20/21 school year which makes buying needed equipment and materials nerve wracking.

I apologize that I do not have all of the answers yet; however, I wanted to communicate where we are at in the process. Teachers, staff, administrators and I will be working throughout the summer developing our plan and putting the necessary components in place to assure its success. I will continue to provide you updates as clarity develops.
