Update from the Assistant Superintendent – April 30, 2021

April 30, 2021  /  Superintendent

Dear Central Linn Families and Community,

As a district we have undergone significant challenges this year. Unlike any other, our students have had to adjust and adapt to a changing environment. Our goals, as a school community, include providing safety and stability for all of our students. Earlier this week an assignment was given in a social studies class that outlined the concept of liberal versus conservative views of students. While we agree with the development of identifying personal views and understanding how this can impact our choices in the future, this assignment does not reflect the values of the district or move us as a community to unity and understanding. We apologize for any frustration and anxiety that this may have caused families and our students. This assignment will be withdrawn from students’ grades and an alternate assignment provided; additionally, school and district administrators will immediately work with staff to review and support assignments that may require parent notification prior to sending home material. We will continue to grow, adapt, and improve as we work towards building a community of trust and respect. If you have any questions, please reach out to your school principal or the Superintendent’s Office for information and support.

Sincerely,

Candace Pelt
Assistant Superintendent
