Letter to the Community from Superintendent Gardner – December 1, 2020

December 1, 2020  /  Superintendent

Dear Central Linn Community,

It is with great sadness that Central Linn School District has made the decision to move into Comprehensive Distance Learning (CDL) effective Monday, December 7th, for K through 3rd grade. We will also discontinue most Limited in Person Instruction for all grades beginning immediately. Your child’s teacher will contact you if there is an exception.

K-3 will finish Tuesday-Thursday on our current schedule. Friday, we will not have class so teachers and Educational Assistants can prepare for CDL starting Monday. If you have the ability to keep your child home this week, feel free to do so. Please call and tell us that you are keeping your child home so we can excuse the absence.

Covid cases in Linn County have been averaging over 259 cases per 100,000 for the last 2 weeks and local Halsey/Brownsville cases have tripled in one week. Although we have not yet seen the schools be a source of transmission, outside behavior has introduced covid into the school community; this has made staffing particularly challenging. At this time, we feel it best that everyone stay home and stay safe.

We will be monitoring the amount of community spread and are hopeful that we can return after winter break. This depends on everyone doing their part to stop the spread. According to state metrics, cases must drop below 100 per 100,000 to get our kids back in school.
