Letter to the Community from Superintendent Gardner – November 24, 2020

November 24, 2020  /  Superintendent

Dear Central Linn Community,

I thought it was time for a quick update on the status of in-person instruction at Central Linn. We are currently operating in-person instruction grades K thru 3 and Comprehensive Distance Learning (CDL) with Limited In-Person Instruction (LIPI) grades 4 thru 12. There are no changes to this schedule following Thanksgiving break.

There have not been any COVID-19 cases linked to the schools in Central Linn. This is a testament to the required protocols that are in place and the adherence to those protocols. That being said, we are facing rising case numbers in Linn County which could force us into CDL for all grades and a cutback of the LIPI we are now providing. Staff are working extremely hard to make CDL work, as are parents and kids; this is not an ideal situation and it is not what we want for our kids; we want them back in school.

January 4th is when Central Linn will no longer be grandfathered in on the old matrix and the new matrix becomes mandatory. Current case counts in Linn County would lead to a mandatory shut down of schools.  Individual responsibility for keeping ourselves, family and community safe over the next five weeks will determine if we have school on January 4th. If we work hard at protecting ourselves and others I could be writing a letter explaining how we will be adding in-person instruction for all of our learners starting in January. If we do not take the steps necessary to stop local spread our kids will be staying home after Christmas break. Please be safe and help us get our kids back in school.
